Applications for the Federation Business School East Gippsland Business Awards closed on Tuesday 1 August and a record number of businesses have entered this year.

“This is a fabulous result,” Janet Burton, Executive Officer for Business & Tourism East Gippsland said. “What is most pleasing, however, is that we have representation from across our region. These are the East Gippsland Business Awards and it is so great to have applications from across our large geographic area. There are so many strong and viable businesses located in our smaller towns, serving the local community, and it is wonderful to have these towns represented in the Business Awards. We have done a lot of website and Face Book promotion this year and also made a lot of personal visits to businesses, which has paid off. Our new on-line video has also helped a lot.”

Judging for the Business Awards commences on Monday 7 August and runs for five weeks, with finalists being announced on Wednesday 20 September. A Finalists’ Breakfast, sponsored jointly by Albert & Co. and the Bellevue, will be held in Lakes Entrance on Thursday 28 September.

A panel of experienced business professionals, drawn from inside and outside East Gippsland, have generously volunteered their time to judge the 2017 Business Awards, and Business & Tourism East Gippsland greatly appreciates the valuable role that they play.

All 2017 Business Awards entrants will receive a personal visit from the judge assigned to their category and in in some cases, a mystery shopper visit may also be undertaken. “Businesses go to a lot of trouble to put together a comprehensive application for the Awards”, Janet said “and it is essential that they get value out of the process. This value comes partly from the analysis that takes place in order to put the application together, partly from the personal meeting with the judge and partly from the feedback provided by judges after the fact”.
